President's LetterI want to thank Sarah Ciampa and our many members and guests for a wonderful Installation. The theme of many geese flying in formation will continue in the upcoming year as is evident by all who have volunteered in order to make this a very rewarding and successful year. As we work to combine our two organizations into one and change our title, your Board is planning many exciting and interesting programs. On October 22, 2008 we will be combining our Dinner Meeting and our Woman of Achievement presentation with the Cranberry District at the Hyannis Golf Club. I would encourage all who are able, to attend and bring a guest. Included in the Bulletin is a list of our current committees and their members, please feel free to contact them or Sylvia Connor, our First Vice President, with any ideas that you may have or programs that you would like to have presented at our Dinner Meetings. State Fall Board was held on October 4, 3008 in Peabody MA. A complete report is enclosed. Again my sincere thanks for a great Installation and super response as volunteers. I hope to see everyone again on October 22, 2008 in Hyannis. Betty A. Moffitt |

State Fall Board Meeting Report | |

On October 4, 2008 I , along with Jeanne Alves, Becky Colas and Amy Kates attended the BPW/MA Fall Board. A warm welcome was extended to all by Sally Hoyt, BPW/MA past president. Roger Fisk, the Democratic Party representative gave an informative presentation followed by a question and answer period. Marsha Stout spoke on behalf of our goals to recruit new members and membership retention. Currently this is also a National focus as well as local and State. Marsha suggested that we also review our membership on a monthly basis and contact members questioning why they are not renewing and to utilize the BPW website, stress the benefits of BPW and offer good programs in order to recruit and maintain members. Coalition updates were given by Jill Ashton on behalf of wage equity, Sarah Steinfeld on behalf of Care for Youth and Kristen Whitfield on behalf of Coalition for Choice. A motion was made and carried that we continue to be involved and support these three coalitions. President Kathleen Pavelchek stated that this is a difficult time for many women, due to the fact that |
during an economic downturn a woman is more apt to loose her job and it is important that we have representation on our behalf on Capitol Hill, our job is to recruit and retain membership. Area One Representative, Shelly Maloney spoke on behalf of the National BPW budget deficit and the challenge being given to each State to gift to the National Federation the amount of one thousand dollars before December 31, 2008. Poor response in regards to the 2008 National Conference has added greatly to this deficit. The National Finance Committee’s recommendation to the Board of Directors prior to adoption of the 2009 budget was that the 2009 National Conference which was to be held in St. Louis be cancelled. The budget which was adopted by the Board Of Directors at its meeting on September 16, 2008 did not include revenue or expenses associated with holding a 2009 Conference. Policies and Procedures changes were voted on and accepted. June Anderson presented the registration report as 28 members and one guest in attendance. Winter Board is to be held February 28, 2009 in the Cranberry District State Convention is to be held May 16th, 2009 in Williamstown. MA Betty A. Moffitt |
