Upper Cape Cod BPW Bulletin

President's Letter

I wish to begin the upcoming year by thanking Beverly Wall-Cedrone and all members and guests who attended and contributed to the very special May Installation of Officers. Members have again stepped up to the plate and volunteered to assist on the various committees. Many positions are still available so please offer your assistance, even if only able to do so on a limited basis.

Our intended goal for the upcoming year is to retain and increase our membership so please come and invite a guest to our membership drive September 16th meeting.

Your President along with Amy Kates attended the special State Convention which was held on July 25, 2009 in Worcester, MA. At that time a vote was taken and the outcome of that vote was that BPW/MA would remain with BPW/Foundation.

Cranberry District was held on August 12, 2009 and my report is included in this Newsletter.

With the exception of a July meeting, your Board has held it’s regular meetings throughout the Summer months. I wish to thank all board members for the time and effort which they devote to our local. Many interesting speakers and programs have been put in place for our upcoming meetings, so please let us talk up and advertise our Upper Cape Local, thus making the communities which we serve aware of who we are and what we represent.

Our program during which members donate food at our monthly meetings and in turn we bring this donation to one of the communities which we represent in order that it be placed into their respective food banks, was a tremendous success this past year and we will continue this endeavor again this year as our economy has not rebounded and many are in need of the basic items in order to survive.

I look forward to seeing everyone on September 16th and let’s have a SUPER year!!

Betty

Friday evening registration was followed by a Memorial service which was held in memory of Lena Choma, Past President, and Arlene Redovich, also a Past President. Awards were given in several categories and Upper Cape Cod was honored with the Gold Foundation Award. Eighteen members were present for the Friday evening events.

The meeting was called to order at 9:00 ON Saturday May 16, 2009. President elect VJ Harnett led the members in the Collect and Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America. In attendance were thirty members. Patricia Stowell extended to everyone, a warm welcome to the town of Williamstown.

All were advised that the BPW/USA Foundation merger had passed by a vote of 2459 for and 671 against. The merger passed by a 78% vote of all BPW/USA members. July 1, 2009 is the goal for the merger completion, but there are still a few items to be reviewed. The merger will allow State Federations to make their own decisions, make their own By-Laws and Policy and Procedures. State Federations will also have to decide if they wish to be a part of this merger or go it on their own. This decision will have to be made by March 2010.

The changes to the BPW/MA By-Laws were brought before the membership and voted upon. Changes were made and accepted.

The Treasurer’s report was presented, and after a short discussion was accepted to be filed for review.

Food Panty Donations

Please remember to bring canned and packaged foods to each of our meetings this year. Our intent is to distribute these goods to a different food bank or service center each month.

Keep in mind the demand for food is way up due in part to the current state of our economy and the resulting circumstances families find themselves in.

Thank You for your support.
